Capt. Jason Gray, a 25-year veteran of the St. Johnsbury, VT Police Department, responded to a domestic violence call shortly after 4:30 PM on December 13, 2024. He was shot at least once with a shotgun by the suspect, Scott Mason.
Capt. Gray was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, where he remained in stable but serious condition. The St. Johnsbury Police Department stated, “Tonight has been a shock to the community as a whole. Captain Gray is a staple of the police department for over twenty years of service. Captain Gray remains strong as always and is currently stable.”
Following an extensive manhunt by multiple state and local agencies, the suspect was captured early Sunday morning.
